Newport County AFC’s Disabled Supporters’ Association is staging a charity cupcake day in aid of the Alzheimer’s Society.

The event on Thursday, June 15, takes place between 10am and noon at Horton’s Coffee House on Millennium Walk, a short walk from County’s Rodney Parade home.

The cupcake day is being supported by Newport’s Holiday Inn, which will be providing bespoke cakes for the event.

Horton’s Coffee House owner Gavin Horton will be donating £1 for every coffee sold to the Alzheimer’s Society, while Melin Homes has donated £50 worth of homemade cupcakes. Other cupcakes are being baked and donated by Sue Sullivan.

Volunteers from County in the Community's We Wear the Same Shirt programme will be in attendance, and there will be two pianists playing at the event.

The chairman of the independent County DSA, Colin Faulkner, said: “We hope people with dementia will attend with their families and friends, and request songs for the pianists to play that will spark some precious memories.”

Everyone who buys a coffee at the event will receive a raffle ticket. The prize is an Alzheimer’s Society goodie bag and a Sunday meal for two donated by Holiday Inn.

Organisers are happy to receive donations of bespoke cupcakes from other organisations. Anyone who can help should contact Colin Faulkner on 07546 328850 or Gavin Horton on 07967 792707.

Horton’s Coffee House will also be the venue for a dementia awareness session, which will include a talk from the Alzheimer’s Society, on Monday, June 26, 6pm-7pm.
